Universal Smart Cards From Factors

Alternative Form Factors to Standard ISO sized Cards for day to day use...

Universal Smart Cards supply a wide range of RFID contactless form factors to the market to compliment the ISO standard cards that most people are familiar with.

Popular applications include EMV payment for goods, membership in leisure centres, clubs, gyms, and festivals, loyalty schemes, or from rising demand in both consumer and industrial segments on the back of NFC and IoT applications.

'Contactless technology' or ‘RFID’ tags are massively in demand as it adds user convenience and helps find alternative branding opportunities in addition to standard ISO-sized cards.

In addition, there is an evolution in connectivity and linking device identity in real-time to the cloud.

Due to the advancement in wearable and chip technology we can embed the same smart chips that are inside standard cards without any adverse visual effects.

There is no limitation on the differing types of RFID frequency bands. Universal Smart Cards can provide a full range of low frequency (LF), high frequency (HF) and Ultra High Frequency (UHF) devices.

NFC devices are becoming particularly popular as is the rapid adoption of contactless payment in banking using wearables like keyfobs, watches or smart garments.

Universal Smart Cards can reduce the time to market for EMV payment in wearables with the introduction of the new smart inlays that we manufacture in-house or promote from core partnerships with Infineon such as the SECORA™ Pay W for Smart Payment Accessories (SPA).

These support fast transactions speeds, strong reading distances and pre-certification for EMV which we are integrating into new schemes. For more information on EMV payment in wearables please see the link here.

Universal has either standard distribution products on stock in our warehouse for immediate deployment or we can help with bespoke designs, branding, encoding and fulfilment from our technical centre in Portsmouth in the UK.

Universal Smart Cards Hard Tags

Universal Smart Cards can customise Keyfobs, Wristbands, Tags, Labels and Dry Inlays to support the bespoke needs of a customer.

We can change either the specific branding or offer additional design concepts. Alternatively, we can supply highly durable and heat resistant 'insert tags' for integration into client clothing, garments, third party wearables, and other standard products needing 'contactless' or RFID functionality.

Customisation is available with most IC types and popular brands are classified in each category

Wet & Dry Inlay/Paper Labels/PVC Labels/Hard Tags:

Universal Smart Cards can supply the following range of packaging types:

  • Dry Inlay - the most basic packaging and consisting of the single substrate on which the antenna and chip is housed. There is no adhesive or covering and these are ideal for simple applications needing simple integration without any additional packaging or cost.
  • Wet Inlay - in addition to the above an adhesive is added so the inlay can be stuck to the chosen application. Wet inlay has little protection and personalisation and is the most basic form of a sticker or label.
  • Paper labels - in addition to the above processes a paper surface is added providing additional protection and capabilities. Universal can help with electrical and graphical personalisation or supply a label printer for personalisation.
  • PVC labels – for increased durability paper can be replaced with a thin PET, PVC or PP layer that can still be personalised but with added strength.
  • Hard Tags - by far the most rugged form factor as the IC is additionally encased into harder materials such as plastics, ABS, or PPH.
