With the impact of the global pandemic in early 2020 workforces are having to adapt to remote working scenarios and increasing access through mobile devices. IT is under incredible stress and it is hard to predict the “new normal” of working as we adjust to the moving landscape.
According to a 2019 Global Workplace Analytic report remote working has in fact been growing for some time by 140% since 2015. This newfound influx of remote workers increases the impact of IT issues such as password resets, help desk tickets, potential security risks including password-phishing malware.
Cyber security is also making headlines frequently in the wake of recent hacks and leaks from large corporations; victims including household brands like Boots, Virgin Media, and Tesco Clubcard. It is estimated that the cost of breaches, identity theft, and other cybercrimes will double, from $3 trillion in 2015 to $6 trillion in 2021.
It is of course impossible to predict the future, but with the number and severity of data breaches due to compromised credentials splashed across the news, it may be a time to ‘batten down the hatches’ and take preventative measures.
