Two Rossendale rugby players reached the peak of Mont Blanc last week and raised over £2,000 for two great charities.
Deyrick Allen “Diz” and Andy Bedlow, both from Rossendale, set out on a challenge – Diz was to lose 30+kgs and Andy would train with him. The target? To climb Mont Blanc.
That was Christmas 2012, and just 9 months later (and 32kgs lighter) the pair succeeded in their challenge while raising money for the Alzheimer’s Society and local theatre group the Cotton Shed.
Deyrick was elated “I always knew it would be hard but when you get there... it’s just amazing! We received some great sponsorship from Universal Smart Cards, HID Global and local businesses to make it happen. We’re just over the moon”
They’re still receiving donations but have so far the duo have raised £2,200 for their charities. Their next challenge? “Let’s see what ideas we come up with this year over the Christmas dinner table” says Andy.
