For those that haven’t heard of HESCA, it stands for Higher Education Smart Campus Association. Their aim is to provide establishments with a platform to discuss the development and the introduction of smart technology solutions for education campuses. During their events they include a number of presentations from British and international specialists and provide valuable opportunities for members to explore the smart card marketplace in a non-sales environment.

Our visit to the most recent event, 19th and 20th March 2019…

On day one, we had the opportunity to learn of new developments in smart campus technology and in particular the growth in migrating to smartphones as a source. Organisations shared how you will be able to tackle ‘the cashless campus’ and other relevant and useful topics were discussed, including migration from Mifare Classic to DESfire, new personalisation techniques, the revolution in access control systems, attendance monitoring and IoT.

Day Two, consisted of a series of four educational workshops covering the main technical and operational challenges for a smart campus, followed by supplier briefings. These streams were timed to ensure that suppliers with competing solutions would not run concurrently where possible. Meaning, we benefitted from being able to hear from multiple businesses with similar solutions.

Business Manager Jack Hargreave represented us at the event, and he commented:

‘I had a great time at the event and really enjoyed networking with a variety of businesses in the industry. It was excellent to get an insight into the latest campus technologies and see how we can support in creating the ultimate smart campus!’
